Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) is one of the best treatments for varicose veins, enlarged and/or damaged veins, offered at Carolina Heart and Leg, PA. Laser energy, which is a concentrated beam of light, is administered to the targeted tissue.

The laser offers extreme precision with minimal risk to surrounding tissues. It is performed by the experienced physicians at Carolina Heart and Leg, PA and it provides fewer complications than invasive surgery.

EVLT is a minimally invasive treatment requiring only a local anesthetic instead of general anesthesia. You can walk after the procedure and return to regular activity the same day. There may be soreness and slight swelling for several days easily treated with over-the-counter pain medications. Simple preparation includes wearing compression hose for three months before the scheduled procedure.

During EVLT, the physician inserts a thin fiber into the damaged vein through a small entry point in the skin. The laser light is administered through the catheter into the targeted vein. As the physician gently pulls the fiber back, the laser delivers the exact amount of energy needed to close and seal the vein. Since superficial varicose veins handle less than five percent of blood flow, blood easily reroutes to healthier veins.
