As summertime is often a good time to get outside and be active, in this edition, we are going to highlight some popular hiking destinations in and around Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that healthy adults try to involved in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week, but did you know that the activity could be as simple as taking a walk?

Walking has been known to be one of the heathiest activities that anyone can do to improve their heart health. Though it sounds easy, walking elevates the heart rate and is also low impact, so it causes less stress on joints. Some of the best parts about walking to improve your health is that it is extremely convenient. Walking can be done anywhere, at just about any time, and can fit into various parts of a busy schedule, including during a lunch break or after a meal. Walking can be made even more enjoyable by adding music, audiobooks, podcasts, or even pets, friends and family.

Just taking a 30 minute walk every day meets the Department of Health and Human Services recommendation. Even though taking a walk sounds simple, there are a few precautions that are important to remember when beginning any new fitness program. First, consult with your physician to ensure that it will not complicate other health concerns. Then, make sure to invest in a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
